Without a washer at home, that is. So I bought 2 yds or muslin colored twill for a bag I'm working on. See, i wanted to dye the fabric green, but I bought it off white so I could achieve a kinda rustic, sap moss green color. I pre-washed my fabric, and did what the instructions said, and it turned out like a minor green tea stained color instead. For giggles, I put in a small swatch of non-pre treated white twill that turned out perfect. So, I put in the whole 2 yd piece of white, and it turned out lime green. I went to the store to get another packet of the green thinking that maybe I used up too much of the color the first time, and they were out. Another store, another empty hook. Finally, I went to another store, and they only had RIT dye.
RIT, that crap our mothers used to dye dad's jeans. I used it years ago to dye all my clothes black. Do you know it's been around since 1917?
Well, got home, and mixed the fabric. It is a very vibrant green. Not the color I was hoping to achieve, but I can work with it. It actually turned out kinda a tie dye effect, lime green with darker lime green accents.
I'm going to turn it into a skirt with flowers embroidered on it.
Peace
PS, Met Mondo from Project Runway tonight. I showed him what I was doing with the skirt, and he really liked the idea. Life is grand...
